Psych’s 5 Stages of Grief

March 12, 2014
Posted in: "My Blog"

“Psych is ending!?! Please bare with me while I go through the stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Blaming Others, Blaming Myself, and Disbelief”

“Shawn, those aren’t the five stages of grief, and denial and disbelief are the same thing!”

.

Call it psychic vibes, but unfortunately the spirits were right when that feeling was bestowed upon me, that Psych may not have too many seasons remaining. Of course we all know now that USA Network announced season 8 would be Psych’s final season…

Now if you have never seen the show, I highly recommend it! I don’t watch much television, but this is one show that was worth sitting down for. I would post a synopsis of the series for those interested, but doing so would make this post become very long, so I will have to skip that part.

It feels too soon, even though 8 years is a very long time. The characters bring the show to epic proportions, kind of what I would call the ‘Star Wars’ factor (original series). Everyone has their own unique quirks, and it would be really hard to pick a favorite, if you would try to pick one. Not to mention with all the different episodes, many which play homage to other movies or shows or even previous Psych episodes (“Cloudy with a chance of Remake”), it’s also very hard to pick a favorite. One other cool thing worth mentioning is the parody theme songs. It’s going to be very sad to see this show go.

So without further delays, I bring you, what I call: Psych’s 5 Stages of Grief:

Denial — Psych and USA Network is just ‘psyching’ us out. They are falsely canceling the show; it will be back next season and stronger than ever!

Anger — #$$$^^&^%&^^%&*^&*^&*^&*^&^%&%$ Declan Rand

Blaming Others — It’s all USA Networks Fault! or Declan Rand’s fault?!?!

Blaming Myself — Perhaps if I would have watched the Psych Musical sooner, this would never have happened?

Disbelief — It can’t be going off the air. No it’s not. Too many people love this show!

The series “completes” on March 26th, and there is supposed to be a farewell question and answer show proceeding the finale. Psych has had a track record of being a fan-oriented show, and has made appearances at Comic-Con along with a few College Tours.

Watching up through “Shawn and Gus Truck Things Up“ there has been a feeling that things are wrapping up and a lot of questions have been answered, such as Lassiter’s child being born, McNabb returning to the police force, Chief Harris Trout leaving the SBPD. However, there is still a lot that could keep the show going on, such as Shawn’s Dad mentioned possibly joining the Psych Team in season 7 (maybe he was joking), and what’s going on with Despereaux? It feels like he needs to return, somehow now there is even more mystery surrounding everyone’s favorite master criminal!

[3/20 edit: after “A Touch of Sweevil” it actually feels like there is a lot more momentum in the show, and much more room to grow]

Maybe it’s just that there is well developed back stories and that the show has been able to continually reinvent itself, but whatever the “IT” factor is that makes this show awesome, it’s very bittersweet. There are so many people who don’t want to see the show go, but if we didn’t like it so much, then we wouldn’t care. At this point there are still a few shows remaining, so let’s sit back and enjoy them! As for the cast and crew of Psych, bravo to a job well done!
